About the NEXTLOGIC project
NEXTLOGIC is a European HORIZON project aimed at developing future-proof urban logistics solutions with the goal of achieving climate neutrality. It provides a collaborative, digitally supported framework as well as a comprehensive range of solutions to address current challenges in urban mobility. By leveraging advanced technologies, sustainable practices, and data-driven decision-making, NEXTLOGIC supports the EU’s climate neutrality targets and promotes Smart City initiatives.
The overarching objective is to support cities in their transition to net-zero-emission transport by redistributing urban space, redesigning infrastructure, and optimizing the movement of people and goods through innovative resource planning, intelligent control, and real-time monitoring for new mobility and logistics services.
Under the consortium leadership of the Université du Luxembourg, an international consortium of 34 partners—including cities, universities, and industry stakeholders—is working on innovative approaches for emission-free urban supply chains.
Frankfurt am Main is participating in the project as a “Follower City.” House of Logistics and Mobility (HOLM) GmbH leads the Frankfurt subproject and collaborates with DB InfraGO AG and the City of Frankfurt am Main.
The core of the Frankfurt project is the implementation of two mobile micro hubs for last-mile delivery, operated with zero-emission vehicles such as cargo bikes. The first micro hub will be established at the start of the project by DB InfraGO on the premises of Frankfurt (Main) West railway station, building on experience gained from the MOVE21 project (HORIZON 2020). A second depot will be realized as a replication solution of the “Leading City” Wrocław and planned using digital tools such as Digital Twins and Extended Reality.
NEXTLOGIC emphasizes close involvement of relevant stakeholders through workshops and surveys, data-driven site and concept development, and a comprehensive evaluation based on defined performance indicators. The goal is to develop concrete recommendations for the further expansion of micro hubs, thereby making an important contribution to the implementation of the City of Frankfurt’s logistics strategy.
The international project is being implemented in a total of eight European cities. The “Leading Cities” are Aarhus (Denmark), Wrocław (Poland), The Hague (Netherlands), and Dublin (Ireland). In addition to Frankfurt am Main, the “Following Cities” include Bergamo (Italy), Differdange (Luxembourg), and Heidelberg (Germany).
The contact persons responsible for the project at HOLM GmbH are Senior Project Manager Dr. Franziska Wouters and Senior Project Manager Stéphane Kouassi.
